About the course
This course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the Comprehensive Adolescent Severity Inventory (CASI), including its purpose, structure, and clinical application.
Participants will learn how to administer the CASI using standardized interviewing techniques, apply appropriate probes, accurately code client responses, and utilize Interviewer Severity Ratings (ISR).
A strong emphasis is placed on the clinical significance of the information collected and how CASI data inform diagnostic impressions, treatment planning, and level of care recommendations, including alignment with the ASAM Criteria Six Dimensions.

Goal
To develop participant competency in the accurate administration, coding, and clinical application of the CASI.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Understand the purpose and clinical significance of the CASI and each of its sections
- Demonstrate the ability to introduce and administer the CASI effectively
- Apply recommended probes and follow-up questions
- Accurately code client responses using standardized conventions
- Identify and correct common interviewing and coding errors
- Utilize the Interviewer Severity Rating (ISR) process
- Interpret CASI data in a clinically meaningful way
- Apply CASI findings to treatment planning and level-of-care decisions
- Understand the relationship between CASI data and the ASAM Criteria Six Dimensions
